Ok, a bollywood film trying to be a hollywood film. No songs, no striking visuals, no running around trees, not a propa indian love story, NO SWITZERLAND, how can a film like this survive, easy, RAM GOPAL VARMA.
After witnessing Raaz, the film was great, I did enjoy it, but it didnt exactly give me the chills that I wanted, and trust me it aint easy to do that, I have seen many Hollywood horror flicks, none have really scared me (apart from a few Aliens, Long Time Dead, Predetor, Exorcist I laughed at)But Bhoot certainly came very close.
The plot is a newly wed couple (Ajay Devgan, Urmila) move into an apartment where a woman had fallen off the balcony, the apartment is now haunted and it seems to be after only Urmila, or does it.
It has many chilling scenes, where the watchers head is turned 180 degrees, Urmila being possesed and witnessing the bhoot appear unexpectadly. This is defying hindi cinema totally, and proves to do it well. This dark chilling film would have been spoilt with songs, neverending flashbacks or unrelevant and annoying comedy (sorry Johny Lever).
The performances are mind blowing, Urmila obviusly stands out the most, the film is hers all the way, after her item numbers, you would not expect her to deliver such a powerpacked performance. Ajay Devgan excels as the confused husband, Rekha brilliant as ever, I do think Fardeen Khan was slightly wasted, as someone as more mature could have been better, his emotions werent as convincing.
Only thing I can say is watch this movie, but watch it in the cinema, ive heard people watch it at home who got nothing from it, go to the big screen and I guarantee you will enjoy it.
