Bicycle theif This Italian movie is listed in the gretest movies of the world.If you want to know this widely acclaimed movie made a name for itself then you must read this review. ’’Bicycle thief’’ as the name it self suggests it is about a bicycle thief or a man’s search for the bicycle thief.
The story is a simple story set in Italy (I think during the time of depression) and the story revolves around one person (I am extremely sorry for not mentioning the actor’s names as I do not know them) is in uttermost economic difficulties. One fine day the employment office offers him a job as a poster boy for which a bicycle is a must, he sells all that he has got to buy a bicycle and after one day of excitement in his new job his bicycle will be stolen by a thief.
And the entire story revolves around how he tries to find his bicycle. A guide to perfect film making is what I call this movie. The best of the screenplay. I suppose, is the strongest point in this movie. The plot, and it’s establishment and the final resolution is very well timed. The movie starts off like a spark. In the first 10-15 minutes of the movie itself the scrrenplay writer establishes the story in such a manner that you will feel so sad when the cycle is stolen.
Since it is a movie about a theft of an article the viewer should fall in love with the article. I think only then when it is stolen the viewer will feel the pain of the owner. Strangely this movie doesnot have any thing except pure cinema. Technically there are no special effects or any such thing like great locales or even great lighting effects.
The photography, the acting, the screenplay are extremely real. And that is what makes you get involved in the cinema. Never ever you will feel that you are watching a movie. Because every one of us will certainly have atleast one such experience of our things getting lifted by somebodyand we all know that pain. And the direction is so lucid that it moves on like a poem. One thing I liked so much in this movie is the change in one’s attitude according to the situation is depicted so well.
Finally as a viewer everybody wishes that the owner should get his cycle back. But as it happens in real world it hardly happens that we get our lost things back to us. It wouldn’t have been so great a movie if it had a happy ending like other movies. The guy himself tries to steal another cycle in frustration and gets caught in the end. Sorry to reveal the plot but couldn’t help it. Watch this world calssic for its pure brillance of an art called cinema.
