How Furniture Bazaar Fleece customers with Defecti



  1. I had purchased One Sofa Lounger, One 6 Seater Dining Table & a Set of 3 Glass Top Table totalling Rs 35, 000 from Furniture Bazaar, Nirmal Lifestyles, Mulund (W), Mumbai on 24 Feb’07. I was promised delivery of ordered items in 2 days time.




  2. I received a consignment on 2nd Mar’07 consisting of Sofa Lounger & Dining Table only. There was no info on the 3No. Glass Top Tables. I was informed that the Assembly guy will come later.




  3. On 6 Mar’07, After I again called Furn Bazaar for assembly of the delivered furniture, one guy Raju came from Furniture Bazaar. However it was not one man’s job to manage assembly of the Sofa & Dining Table. With no other option, I became the helper to help Raju in assembling the furniture.




  4. I found that one Sofa leg was broken. Raju called the shop & was told that it will come next day to fix it. Also the sofa had two cuts in the leather base. I was assured by the shop that these are minor damages & I shouldn’t worry about these. I refused to accept any damaged item & asked for a replacement which is yet to happen.




  5. Two Dining Chair backs were damaged. Shop proudly informed me that it will take 3 weeks for replacement.




  6. Now almost a month has passed but the shop is silent on the status of the 3 no. of Tables which are yet to be supplied. The Shop Manager – Mr Ravel was not taking my calls anymore. So on 15 Mar’07 when I SMSed him that I am filing a police complaint of cheating. Immediately he called back & assured me that he will be sending me the missing tables & the sofa base in 2 days. However today is 19 Mar’07 night and there is no calls from the shop or sign of the missing/replacement of damaged items.




  7. Thus in a Nutshell, I bought on 24 Feb’07- Three items viz. Sofa Lounger, Dining Table with 6 Chairs and a Set of 3 Glass Tables.






The status is as below :-


A. Sofa Lounger – Both Sofa bases damaged & awaiting replacement


B. 2 Dining Chairs Back damaged – Awaiting replacement


C. Set of 3 Glass Top Tables – Yet to be delivered.


The items purchased have a warranty of one year from date of delivery. However in my case, the some items are delivered but are defective. Some are yet to be delivered/replaced. Thus the warranty period of my purchases is yet to commence.


Through your columns, I wish to bring to notice of your readers the Poor & shoddy service provided by Furniture Bazaar which is a division of Pantaloons. It also speaks volumes of the honesty & integrity of such a large chain of stores who dupe the customers by pocketing their money but don’t deliver the bought items or deliver damaged items. Imagine the money such stores must be making by such tactics. So Beware and pay only on delivery.
