I happened to visit this cafe way back in 2012 during my brief stay in Delhi and I can easily say that The Big Chill is the best thing that has happened to Delhi. Really jealous of these Delhi-ites. Mumbai isn’t short of restaurants like these but Big Chill really impressed me.
Let me begin with the decor and ambience. The restaurant is really well made, hats off to the designer and decorator. The cafe will make you believe that you are in some cool cafe in NYC. Brick walls and some vintage posters of Hollywood classics complete the look. The music is a blend of 70s and 80s and complements the ambience very well.
Like I said before I was new to the city, so a friend accompanied me and took the liberty of ordering for me. He called for some super cheesy pasta, spaghetti and some drinks. I am actually not fond of pasta in white sauce but I didn’t want to put him off and hence went with the flow.
My friend, as a matter of fact ordered the dessert first and told the waiter to ‘book’ the banofee pie and the blueberry cheesecake. I found it kind of ridiculous and had to ask him what does he mean by ‘book it’. He told me, that the Big Chill is famous for its desserts and we have to pre book the desserts or they get sold out pretty fast. I suppressed a laugh and thought of a snide comment, I would make when the desserts arrive.
The drinks came first. His was a tall glass of belgium shake and mine was strawberry. Mine was really good and I desperately wanted to sample his. One sip of the Belgium shake and my jaw dropped. It so luscious and rich I tossed my glass away and gulped his to my heart’s content. The food followed quickly and the Pasta in cheese sauce was undoubtedly the best I ever had. Spaghetti was good too but the pasta stole the show.
By now, I had really high expectations with the desserts. Finally they arrived, the blueberry cheesake was well baked, smooth and creamy with a nice crunch at the bottom but the banofee pie was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I loved it so much, that even today I ask my friends who are traveling to delhi to get it for me. Seriously! Not Kidding.
The Big Chill is the only reason I will ever step foot in Delhi, again.
Keep the good work!
