Rajasthan is full of forts and we have had our visiting these on previous trips to Jaipur and Jodhpur. We went to the Bikaner fort on the advise of our hosts and were impressed by its excellent maintenance and superb exhibits. The fort guides leave a lot to be desired.
However, Their English is atrocious and they seem more keen in pointing out where certain films were shot! There is a small museum inside as well inside the fort. First things first the people are very nice & the both the fort & museum are maintained & managed very well by one of the royal family trust I remember hearing.
The fort & museum both have free guides who will explain the history of the place to small groups of people. The guides are very knowledgeable & always smiling & typically happy to get a small fee/tip from the tourists at the end of the tour. You can easily spend about half a day here and outside the fort, Bikaner is a old dusty little town with camel carts carrying farm produce.
