The alll new stylish Don

The new Don of  tamil cinema Vishnu vardhans makeover Billa has arrived. No wonder with a bang and is too stylish to handle.  Vishnu has cleverly treated the old blockbuster with tinge of modern techniques, seductive costumes, catchy cinematogrophy and splendid re-recording and giving the New Don an all new stylish look . Will he ever replace the orginal Don is an irrelavant question as the New Billa has its own flavour and treatment and is made in an altogether different era of film making .

The plot remains the same when the undisputed Don Billa is on the most wanted list of the policeman around the world.  Prabhu plays the cop searching for Billa arrives in Malaysia to finalise his plan to capture Billa. He is assisted by the Malaysian cops and group of informers . Billa is so powerful as he manages to escape all attempts on his life, so be it from his enemies of the underworld or the cops . Billa trusts no one including his Girlfriend played by Namitha. Sasha played by Nayanthara manipulates her way to enter the  Billa treshold  just to take vengence of her brothers death  even as  Prabhu and Adhithya his assistant edge closer to capture Billa.  The Don is injured and later killed in an encounter with Prabhu which however Is kept as a secret  even to the interpol officer Gokulnath played by Rahman  this with a sole purpose to capture the higher in command in the trade Jagdish who is unknown . Whether Prabhu manages to capture Jagdish is the balance plot  of Billa

Positives

Ajith as Billa is too stylish  and potrays his role as Don perfectly,

Nayanthara looks stunning in some of the outfits, especially when she arrives to retrieve Billa enroute his journey to jail

Costumes and outfits  a major boost to the characters

Stunt sequences are quite short crispy and stylish . with a avriety of pistols around its a treat

Cinematography is soothing  and locations are quite cool

Rerecording of Yuvan is good .

Characters in the plot Namitha, Pfabhu, Adhithya and Rahman fit in well and screenplay is good

Negatives

Velu to Billa transformation is not captivating and quite weak link in the screenplay

Prabhu is unimpressive in parts at times you feel he is the odd man out in a plot which has a group of very stylish and apt sexy people around

Songs are good but then the last song with shanthanam doesnt fit into the stream of affairs

Plot is old but then its really never clear how Prabhu picks and fixes velu  into the plot.

Verdict:

The Billa of today is a stylish treatment , a good and bold attempt as its natural to compare and relate and discard the movie with the orginal. However Vishnu vardhan has done a fair job and has made sure that at no time it reminds you of the orginal Billa. Watch this movie only for the all new stylish treatment and you may observe the flavour written on almost all the characters involved in this venture . The new Don and the modern day masala films have arrived.  It definitly gives a hope that our modern day film makers can achieve  the bench marks set by the Hollywood group sooner or later . willing! we support efforts like these.
