Billu My friend

Priyadarshaan brings you the most awaited comedy of the year, Billu Barber. But in fact is this a comedy movie? The answer is yes and no.

The movie has many comedy moments but the movie is a mix between comedy and drama. The movie that you think will give you amazing laughs turns out to be an average comedy movie and turns into an excellent emotional story between two friends.

Firstly the movie leaves you with a mystery and that is in fact is Sahir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) and Billu (Irfan Khan) really old school friends.

Throughout the movie it keeps you in lock with the life of billu and his family (etc his wife Lara Dutta and his kids) you go through his life in a matter of a week or so and you get pulled into the village drama and how crazy the people are in the village for Sahir Khan.

Billu is poor barber who owns a nearly broken down shop his materials are very poor and his has competition with a much better looking barber shop across the street. Billu has a lot of money problems. But as news hits that Sahir Khan is coming to town for a shooting and the word spreads that Billu knew Sahir khan from his childhood days the town goes crazy and are after Billu to bring Sahir Khan to them to meet to village people.

Through this rollercoaster ride we meet many characters like Rajpal Yadav and Om Puri, the whole town seems crazy for this star like he is god, so everyone wants to meet Sahir Khan. The movie has one problem which is that the unrealisticness is fine but the town was a bit too crazy for this one star treating him like god and the whole town going crazy is a little bit extreme; I really doubt that a town would go that crazy for a star like that.

Also how stupid Om Puri and other town members must be to hear that Billu is Sahir Khans friend and they believed it without asking him any questions, when in fact he could have been lying the whole time or maybe it was just a fake rumor? Suddenly a star comes to shoot in your town and someone actually knows him from childhood, don’t you think that is a bit too weird. Shouldn’t the townees think why all of a sudden he is saying he knows him? Isn’t it just an attention stunt to get popular?

What makes the movie a good viewing is that throughout the story you never lose grip, you have the urge to see both Billu and Sahir meet and what in fact is the story behind them? Billu’s character is really well done and developed well that you start feeling sorry for him.

The two songs that I did not like the most from the album surprised me being the most fun songs in the film, Ae Ah oo song, is a treat for all SRK fans and not only that the whole video blew me away with how shahrukh khan enters the town, the helicopters and the celebrations it really was something great, Billu Bhyankar another song which is my least favourite surprised me and I laughed quite a bit with the video of how crazy these village people are.

Khudiya Khair clearly the best song in the album was also really nicely pictured. The rocking and reeling track followed its basically as short as the promo only lasted 1.20mins and I was disappointed of how short the song was. However the movie has a good first half and a very good second half, when the emotional situation kicks in the last 25mins of the film your heart goes out to Billu.

One amazing part was when he went through the rubbish to get his old chair and mirror from the trash was really touching. The speech at the end that Shahrukh Khan gave was also amazing. Irfan Khan was amazing as Billu, this is his movie for sure and he does so well and gets into the character so well that you feel for him, he is natural and his comic timings were all spot on, one of the talented actors we have got today.

Lara Dutta does surprisingly well as the wife and village girl she does well. Shahrukh Khan is really natural in this movie and gives you a knockout performance; watch out for the last speech he gives. You will be surprised of how much emotion he puts in. Many people say he was over the top. b

I surely never saw one scene where he went over the top at all, he was completely normal, and in fact he played himself in the movie to an extent which I did not mind at all. Rajpal Yadav and Om Puri were actually very funny, good job adding them in this movie they were really so funny.

Overall the movie is really a good friendship movie and the message is nice and clear with one to two edgy flaws this movie is defiantly worth a watch, go grab a chair to sit down on.....wait not in a barber shop...i mean a cinema seat to watch this sweet simple movie, two thumbs up!
