Billu Bore-A-Bore
Priyadarshan, is a good director in my opinion. He either makes good movies or bad ones, but his films usually are entertaining. Be it the good ones like Hera Pheri, Hungama, Garam Masala, Malamal Weekly, Bhool Bhulaiya or the bad ones like Bhagam Bhag, Hulchul, Dhol etc. Billu Barber is an exception from Priyadarshan, its a bad film by him which fails to entertain in all aspects.
The Plot:
Well, here we have something which doesnt have much to talk about.Now I ll try keeping it as short as possible( though I wont have to take an attempt on that). Vilas Pardesi AKA Billu is a barber in small town whose life is in a mess due to financial problems. However, the egoistic man never borrows anything from anyone. He lives life as it comes though works kard towards improving it.
Sahir Khan, the superstar comes to Billu’s village for a 10 day shoot. The news is like a celebration for the villagers and billu is happy too, becuase Sahir is the childhood friend of Billu. Billu’s children confide into thier friends about thier father’s friendship with the superstar. The news spreads like jungle fire and suddenly the villagers start looking at Billu with respect as everyone wanted a favor from Billu to meet the superstar. Billu doesnt do it as he dint wanna use his friends, which propels the villagers towards thinking that BIllu was lying all about the friendship.
However when Sahir attends the school function, he tell the story of billu and the friends meet after that and Billu regains the lost respect.
Now - WHAT WAS THAT ?? A Story ?? Seriously PRAN the Cartoonist of CHACHA CHOWDHRY and SABOO used to do a better job in 3 pages which Priyan could not do in 2.5 Hours. Everything in the film is bound to bring boredom and you with bated breath will wait for the finishing credits to roll out.
Performances
Nothing much in this department also. Irfan and Lara are good in thier parts but nothing exceptional. Shah Rukh Khan, he does what he is best at. Its amazing to see such consistency from someone so senior in the industry, Yea Yea Am talking about Hamming and Irritating the audience. Shah Rukh Khan hope you never return in a comedy, you yourself are a laughing stock and you dont need to attempt comedies anymore.
Rest of the cast is Ok to Average. No one gives a break through performance.Direction : This is the weakest and the worst film of Priyadarshan. This one makes Kyun Ki look like a classic. Music: Boring songs and very illogically placed in the film.
Overall - Billu Barber is a weak film in all aspects right from the Performances to the screenplay and from music to cinematography. One thing is proven that Priyan cannot make an entertaining film without AN AKSHAY - Has to be Akshay Kumar or Akshay Khanna.
With all this, I still have hopes rested on Priyan’s next with his deadly combo of Akshay-Sunil-Paresh - De DHANA DHAN
