Am I to suffer so much for what I am,
when will I find the love of reality
take me with u, I promise I will fight,
be my guide in my quest, I dont need pity
Ladies and Gentlemen here comes Sanjay Leela Bhansali again with the much hyped Black. The man who directed the just bearable Khamoshi, the ok Hum Dil de Chuke sanam, and the horrible Devdas. Now he comes with Black which can be said to be his best effort till date. It may not be the best movie ever but sure is his best movie ever.
Debraj Sahai: Your world is not black!
The Plot
Black is the story of a girl Michelle Mcnally, who is blind and deaf. Its the story of a lone fighter a teacher Debraj sahai who struggles with the doubts and distrusts of family members of michelle, her teachers and even herself. In the end he also faces alzheimers disease and the complex relational dilemma with michelle. The story takes us into a journey of understanding things, realizing the value of senses and the triumph of human determination over all odds.
Performances
Amitabh Bachchan::: I would say he did a good job but I hated him and bhansali bcos he could have easily done a better lot, if he stopped overacting. its time he stopped his loud whisperings. he is a much better actor when he acts normally and when he is silent.
Rani mukherjee::: its a good performance for the girl. ya she did her part, lot of scopes for improvement. but I must say she has more talent than all of other dumb showgirls of bollywood. try to be more subdued next time u try to play such a character.
Ayesha kapur::: why ayesha can win an oscar for her performance, other than the rice scandals. whatever flaws which may be there in her performance can be easily seen to have come from bad direction from bhansali.
Shernaz Patel::: Very good performance as Michelles mother. Her depiction of emotions for her daughter were very accurate. Give her more roles, I say.
The other actors also did very well. Bhansali could have done with a less dramatic lighting. whats the problem with our guys, why cant they be real. why does it have to be obscure lighting arrangements with specifically directed arrangements of drapes and all. If u create an environment of sadness, sympathy and darkness by ur sets and lights and less by performances and dialogues u need to get a melodrama done. We need emotional dramas, ya we like them but please be real for godssake.
Nevertheless black is a good effort from an ok director, a movie which could and would win awards in india. as for oscars the subject may generate sympathy, but it lacks in overall class. If u wanna see something tragic and real ... go see No mans land.
Michelle McNally: I know now that there is God... He is not in the Holy Spirit we pray to... He isnt written about in religious texts... He is someone who is a part of our lives... Whom we live for... Because of whom we live...
