Blackberry Storm 9530

It was holi afternoon when my HTC P3400 gave up it’s life in joy of rain dance. I had to buy another mobile and I have got Blackberry Storm 9530 in a good price.

I was on cloud 9 with shining black gadget in my hand, but shining on my face was fading gradually as I was getting aware with the facts associated with RIM Blackberry 9530.

1. Heavy Recurring charges for BIS

Surprisingly there is no way to use internet on this handset. You MUST subscribe to BIS/BES(Blackberry Internet Services/Blackberry Enterprise Services) in order to access internet. However you can opt in for Email Services thn you can use Emails and IM but no Internet and FB/Twitter etc etc.

1. Limited Application Memory

The another shocking experince was when my cell’s memory was full after installing couple of applications. It has 128 MB RAM(Application Memory) and all the applications will be installled in this memory. You cant install programs on media card. out 0f 128 MB, 75% will already will be filled by OS, so practically you have only 30-40 MB available.

1. No Maps support for INDIA

Ooo Laala! Entire ASIA is black in BB Maps. no support. However you can use Google Maps for navigation.

1. No Notes

As a window phone user, I am use to of creating notes for reminding things. Unfortunately you cant create any notes in this handset. 3rd part applications are there which you can download from AppWorld.

1. Less Applications available

Blackberry Appword is place where you can thousands of applications of your little gadget. Unfortunately Blackberry doesn’t test those apps before putting up in market. Dozens of applications will hang/crash your handset. It’s good if you read the reviews before installing any application.

1. Minimal customization

Unlike Android and Like windows, BB doesn’t let you to customize your screen very much. They have few preset options and you have to choose one of them.

1. Poor Battery Life

When you are connected to BIS, you cant keep yout smartphone alive for more than 20 hours with Li-Ion 1340 mAh battery.

1. Poor Typing

The biggest Nightmare is typing at fast speed with QWERTY Layout. You can end up with hung up keys or non responsive mode. However there are other keyboard layouts as well which work well but Suretype QWERTY is not as good as STORM2.

1. Poor managing of SMS/Emails

Again as a windows mobile user, I am use to of creating folders for EMails and SMS. SMS are in threaded view and no facility of creating folders. For your emails, it doesnt pull up your folder structure on exchange server. Be in Inbox or delete it.

1. No Support for Flash

You cannot view flash files or Facebook videos or video from other sites. You can view limited videos from yourtube which are optimized for mobile.

Good Things about this phone.

If you still want to go for Touchscreen Blackberry, I would recommend for STORM2 or TORCH with OS6.
