“The Boiler Room” – R
Giovanni Ribisi stars in this movie as Seth Davis, a college aged guy trying to make the fastest buck possible. After dropping out of college he opens an underground casino out of his apartment. He has a few employees and is open 24 hours a day.
When his father (Ron Rifkin), a judge, gets wind of this he tells his son to shut it down. Then Seth’s fate seems to change. An old college friend, Adam (Jamie Kennedy) comes by his casino with his boss, Greg (Nicky Katt). Greg has it all, he’s a millionaire making stockbroker and he thinks Seth has what it takes to make it as a broker himself.
Seth goes to work for the company and soon realizes it’s not quite Wall Street. The owner (Tom Everett Scott) pays his employees double what they would make on Wall Street. Seth can’t quite figure out how he can do it and goes on a quest for information about this company.
Ben Affleck has a smaller role in this film. His performance was great though. I was also impressed with the acting talent of Vin Diesel. You may know him from his small role in “Saving Private Ryan.” I have always liked Giovanni Ribisi. He has a different take on the characters that he plays. I loved when he guest starred on the TV sitcom “Friends” as Phoebe’s little brother! And my new actor to keep my eye on is Nicky Katt. Best known for his role on the current hit TV show “Boston Public, ” he has been popping up in movies now too. He’s a great actor and will do much more in his career.
This film was written and directed by Ben Younger. I thoroughly enjoyed the cast in this film and the movie itself kept my attention, but I did not like how it ended. I would recommend this film if you enjoy any of the above mentioned actors. They did a great job as fast talking stockbrokers.
Enjoy!
