Come Shakalaka With Me...

I think about half of you lot will know what product I am talking about. Andrew Lloyd Webber along with Shekkar Kapoor present A.R.Rahman’s: Bombay Dreams. Bombay Dreams is a play which is presently being performed in the Victoria Apollo theatre in London.

The play is about a Indian girl and boy wanting to be in Bollywood along with their love-story blooming! No I haven’t seen this play yet, but one of the singles has just been released: Shakalaka Baby. The video of this song is constantly being played on B4U Music...if you wish to familiarised yourself with it!

Most of you lot will know that there was a Bollywood movie named Nayak that was released last year and had a popular number, that was performed by Sushmita Sen also called ’Shakalaka Baby’ and that too was composed by A.R.Rahman. Andrew Lloyd Webber has got Rahman to use the same song but has the lyrics changed-and I do not mean by the language as there are bits in Hindi... but the words too!

The basic structure of the song is similar to the Nayak’s version as the there is the same male chorus in the background, and some of the tunes have been remixed with other instruments like the Sitar-so sometimes you cannot tell the similarity. But in the Bombay Dreams version, there seems more use of instruments-it even sounds more Indian than the Nayak version!!!!

And Rahman has used the Sitar really well. I must admit, when I first heard the song, I did not really think much of it; but now it has grown on me and I even downloaded the song from the website-though it was not the whole song :<!

I love the lyrics to the song and this version seems more lively, that you can just jump up and dance to it. Rahman has mixed both English and Indian tunes so beautifully, this track pays off for all the time that I have been waiting for Rahman’s new albums.

Also Farah Khan, a brilliant Bollywood cherographer, has composed the dancing sequence for this play, and you can guess this as Farah uses loads of colours in her songs and this shows in the video as it is very bright, really lovely! The only sad thing is that this is not really an orignal tune as we have heard an Indian version of it already and at the end of the video, the girls seem to be dancing the same movement that Hrithik Roshan did in ’Ek Pal Ka Jeena...’ from Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai; plus it starts raining at the end and the girls do the same swing that Urmila does in ’Kambatk Ishq’ from Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya.

But there is so much happening in the song that you forget about it, as there is so much to take in. Plus the main male lead to very good looking that you keep your eye on him...see its a SHAM!!! Ok it isn’t hes just good-looking...but still...I bet thats why they really choose him!!
