Brian Quest

Maybe, nine year olds are a lot smarter than they used to be! Maybe I have been out of school to long. Maybe, the old gray matter is starting to shrivel a little, can that happen at 35? It might have been the handicap that this game gives the kid just for being a kid. Regardless, the nine year old, my little friend, Steve, kicked my buttt at this one. Brain Quest is the kid equivalent of Trivial Pursuit. I have played the Trivial Pursuit, Jr. before with young friends and never had a problem holding my own. Brain Quest was definitely designed with kids in mind!

The game is geared toward first through sixth graders with topics covering a wide range of categories that they are familiar with. The positive thing about this is that it is very easy to make time for a game. You roll the die, and if you answer correctly (which he always managed to do) then you get to move your piece around the playing board. The game board is set up well and you proceed around rapidly, making the usual game last 20 minutes to a half hour. Brain Quest is a great way to spend time with a youngster in your life, and in Steve’s case, a great self-esteem booster. For me, it was an educational experience since I had to refamiliarize myself with all of those topics that seem to have drifted away over time.

I highly recommend this one as a gift, especially if you have kids in the same age range. I will warn you that the handicap they get for being a kid puts you at a disadvantage starting out that is not easy to catch up to! The questions are geared towrd todays education, which makes what I called an education as a kid, seem a little lacking. Either that or I am getting old and the memory is fading!
