I am a Computer Buff. My tryst with Computers began in 1986 when I purchased my first Home Computer - Sinclair ZX spectrum. I migrated to a PC in the year 1992, a simple 8086 PC with no HDD, 640 KB RAM and hooked to a color TV.
Today I possess a P-III 700 Mhz., 64 MB RAM, 10GB HDD Multimedia system. This is my fifth system. I never owned an MNC branded machine. Most of my PCs were assembled and the latest one is an Indian brand. I have also experience with MNC PCs being the Head of IT of an International Bank.
Branded PC(esp. MNC brands) - I see the following drawbacks in them
Most of them are proprietory in nature and upgrades become difficult.
They are definitely costly and do not provide any greater value for money than assembled systems.
I have experienced more performance problems with branded machines.
Most of them are really assembled with the same or customised components that are used in assembled PCs.
Yes if it is psychological satisfaction go ahead and burn a hole in your pocket with purchase of branded PC. But remember by checking the antecedents of the assembler and ensuring the right components go into the system, I believe assembled or Indian brands provide definite value for money.
