In Bruce Almighty, Jim Carrey plays a news reporter, Bruce Nolan, who is not satisfied with his job or his life. His girlfriend, Grace Connelly (Jennifer Aniston) prays all the time—for Bruce mostly. When Bruce has a bone to pick with God about his crappy life and things that aren’t going right for him, i.e. he didn’t get his promotion, God (Morgan Freeman) steps in and gives Bruce all His powers (pretty much lets him BE God) but says Bruce cannot mess with free will. The plot comes when Bruce has to handle all things that God has to do and the consequences of taking advantage of His powers.
I think the movie has a great cast with great actors. I love Morgan Freeman, and he fits the role of God perfectly in this movie. He just seems so NICE for lack of a better word. As usual, Jim Carrey is hilarious. I love how the number 7 is used a lot during the movie, because that number is the used a lot in the Bible. While the movie does have its serious times, for the most part, its non-stop laughter. I plan on seeing it a second time in theaters; it was great. Despite the one F-word in the movie I caught (I hate that word!), I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was so touching, especially in the end. I would recommend it to mostly teenagers or adults. It’s almost definitely not a children’s movie, although they may like some of the physical humor Jim Carrey displays and the dog that pees all the time. :)
In all, this movie is definitely worth your money. If you don’t want to spend the approx. 7 dollars to see it in the theaters, then definitely see it when it comes out on video. But, it’s definitely worth the money to go see it in theaters.
