Which is best? ACT v BSNL v Photon

  1. Long had BSNL broadband. Their Unlimited was truly unlimited then. Now their’Unlimited’ starts nagging me all the time for topups, interrupting my work because my 1 GB limit’exhausts’ within 2 days. Don’t ask me how, I really don’t know. And their free email refuses to delete email, especially the SPAM. Line problems from time to time but their service is still good.

  2. As against this, ACT is cheaper - 40 GB limit Unlimited(oxymoron - yeah I know it means slower speeds after limit but still. And all the ISPs use that terminology). On the other hand, I’ve had them blocking sites(don’t tell the Government, one of the sites was theirs!). I know it’s them because I can go back with BSNL or Photon and access it. In all honesty, it also feels faster though rated speeds are the same for both. My wife signed up for this recently for her tablet but we wifi it. So cheaper, faster, not used long enough to attest reliability.

  3. Tata Photon I got as a standby once when BSNL was down for a fortnight some years ago. It is slow and painful but it’s a dongle which I can carry wherever I go, especially out of the city(I don’t do that often but it’s useful when I do).

So which is the best? If I had to use only one, I think I’d still go to BSNL. I don’t have to log on everyday(ACT insists, though it’s a wired Broadband connection). I don’t have it blocking websites. I don’t use their email ID in any case. Only the nag pop-ups and the ultra-fast exhaustion of my limit are problems. Even after the limit, I have no problem using it for email and(some) Youtube but you will notice the speed difference if you’ve used ACT. I don’t really include Photon because it’s only real use is for travel(for me). Or you can say I’m so used to it(BSNL) that I’m stuck in their mud:-)
