BSNL is my only option of broadband living in rajajinagar Bangalore and hopefully it is working fine.
The government poses a geographical authority with many other ISPs and as such there is no Airtel, Reliance or ACT Broadband(at time of my connection) in my area permitted by BSNL, the govt ISP.
Pros:
However compared to other ISPs BSNL is better, speed in my area is very reliable. It varies +/- 10 kbps with the actual speed promised. Billing is also transparent and highly patient, sometimes I pay after a month due to some busy schedules and they never disobey.
Best for old residential areas of Bangalore.(BDA limits)
Govt employees get 20% discount on monthly bills.
Good but delayed technical service.
Standard modem with fair WiFi range, but not suitable for 2 or more floored house.
Connection is always live and it is rarely down.
Cons:
- First thing the govt should change the attitude towards serving people. They are not doing some free social service. I had been rudely replied by BSNL. Those people keep blaming and scolding customers for every alternate action. No matter even if I am a new customer still got scoldings.
Eg: If I missed the sign or didnt give proper photocopies etc they get very angry as if I have committed rarest of rare crime.
-Line man asks for petty bribes during installation.
-Speed limits are low.
-Very high initial cost up to 3500 rs with phone connection+ BB.
-Post disconnection procedure, multiple location surrenders and acknowledgement generation take 3 days. Also we cannot ignore as it very regulatory or mandatory because it s government and they may enforce a punishment.
-New connection takes up to a week without a land line connection and 20 days for BB+ Land line.
