Different circles of BSNL have launched a scheme of Choose Your Mobile Number. Under this scheme, a large number of available numbers are shown in their website. There is also a facility to search the numbers for any specific group of numbers, starting with, ending with or contains, etc. For example, you can search all the numbers to look for any available number ending with 2012. Chennai circle, at present, has about 500 numbers which have the sequence of ’4444’ in them!
After choosing the number, the procedure is just simple. You fill up the normal form and submit the normal documentary proof, which you submit whenever you take a SIM card. In a matter of about 10 minutes and for a normal payment of Rs. 29/-, you walk out with your SIM with a free talk time also! The Customer Service Centre is very efficient.
You can apply the chosen number for prepaid or post paid. They also have a scheme of fancy number, wherein, again you choose a number from the available lot, but you pay a fancy amount of Rs. 827/. Well done, BSNL!
