Recently we made a move from a Rented house to our own house 2 months ago. Fortunately and unfortunately airtel(my former broadband provider) said they wouldnt be able to provide the connection anytime soon, since there was no network there.
Application for the broadband:so had no choice but to opt for the BSNL broadband. my father submitted the application and paid the deposit, and also purchased the modem.
He submitted it on NOV 11th but till dec 22 we had no telephone or broadband. Installation:finally on 23rd some of the BSNL folks came and said they would put the telephone, but broadband would be put in15days! I said, what? why not now? he said I dont know either sir, its just the way it works around here!
Finally after 17 days of this a incompetent service guy came to install the modem and engage the broadband.Initial experience: WOW I was blown away, we had opted for 500 c plan where in we would be given the speed up to 2Mbps, which was unheard of for me so I was so happy I started download some system drivers which were misplaced when we made the move. a 100 mb file was downloaded in 7 mins!
But after 2 hours I decided to update the antivirus, but the files were downloading at 200bytes/sec, I thought, it was temporary issue Customer service:it was like 7:00 pm I called their 1957 no. given in the telephone dir. no answer I searched the internet for the phone no. of BSNL customer care, finally I got a all india 1800no.
When I called up the customer care, the person was rude enough to tell me I wasnt suppose to call up on this no.! and just disconnected it! later I somehow called up the person who installed the internet and told him, look the speed that I am getting isnt even 56K why is that, he browsed couple of website, and said sir its all coming up.
I said yes it is, but its not 2Mbps not even 256 Kbps what I used to have in my former house. he wasnt in the position to comprehend my problem. Finally it turned out that some under sea cables were cut near europe, and 68% of indian internet traffic was affected.then after 20 days the problem was rectified.
Advantages/my Advice:
The main advantage is the awesome speed of 2Mbps! you can get this for as low as 500 to 600 RS per month. Night unlimited: from 2AM to 8AM everyday, what ever you download will be free! but during the day if you opt for 500 c+ for instance freet ransfer of 2.5GB will be allowed(0.80 paise for every extra MB)
Connection is quite reliable, I never really experienced disconnection except one time, but was only for 1 hour. Awesome Type2 NAT router: if you purchase the modem, purchase ITI DNA:A211-1.Which not only has wireless capability but also acts as a nat router, there by prevents potential hacks.
Also comes with its own DHCP server. Install Free AVG antivirus and Zone alarm when you get the Internet its very helpful to keep you computer clean. Make sure to switch off the modem when not using it.Dont expect your problem to be rectified in lightning fast speed.
Conclusion:service from technological point of view that BSNL has adopted is truly amazing, its too bad some people there dont know how to use it. Go for BSNL if you download a lot like me, and feel stuck by your current speed. because, it will be worth it.
