The B Triangle

Well, if you are scratching your brains to think what the B triangle is – it definitely is not the Bermuda triangle or the typical Hindi movie love triangle. This is about our soulful-eyed Abhishek, Bunty, (c’mon guys you gotta agree he has got charm) and cute Rani, Babli, (this am sure the guys will be nodding their hands in unison till it drops) and Big B.

Rakesh Trivedi (Bunty/ Abhishek) was born and living in a typical middle class family in Fursatganj. His father, like most fathers, wants his son to follow his footsteps and become a ticket collector and to carry on the family tradition. Rakesh, on the other hand, has big dreams of opening his own finance company. One day when his dad forces him to attend an interview to get a job in the railways, heated arguments follow, and Rakesh questions him, - well it is not the “maa ka dhoodh piya hain tho”.. stuff.. a little different.. “Who will remember you when you die, who will respect you, and one day when you die and stop walking these streets to get to your job, nobody will know the difference.” The same night, he packs his backpack and leaves his small town behind, on way to his dreamland.

Vimmi Kaur (Bubli/Rani Mukherjee) born into a typical Punjabi family in Pankinagar - expected to be the typical docile daughter with her head covered in a pallu and waiting to be married off to some Santa/Banta (of course earning well), but our Vimmi turns out to be somebody with dreams and aspirations and decides that the only way she can be somebody is running away, so here she goes all bags packed towards realizing her dreams.

The fun begins when the duo bump into each other in a railway station. The way Rani approaches Abhishek in the station is a really cute scene. They come together and decide to start their journey together. Yeah, there is no love at first sight or the usual melodrama attached to their meeting.

Woh aakhe hi kya jismein aaso na ho

Woh dil hi kya jismein gam na ho

Woh duniye hi kya jismein tokar na ho

Excuse my futile attempt at shayari..

Well, both our Abhi and Rani are met with failure when Abhi gets cheated and his big finance scheme stolen and Rani (who wants to participate in Miss India) is ill treated and shown the ways of the world, i.e., sleep with me and get rich/famous or go back to your small town. (Well, this is reel life and such things don’t happen unlike in the real life. Hee, hee, all pun intended).

Dejected, both decide to go Mumbai, the land of dreams, but how do they get the money to go there? This is where our characters turn into Bunty and Babli, and the adventure begins with a lot of conning, cheating, chasing, and running around (I know what you are thinking, it definitely is not our usual saree-clad heroine and weirdly dressed hero running around trees).

They collect a lot of money along with making to the front-page news. Here is where the Big B (Dashrath Singh) enters, a policeman who has taken it upon himself to catch this notorious twosome. I had never been a big fan of B, but his performances in the recent movies are applaudable. The whole movie is about how they evade the law and hoard a lot money and will the B be able to catch them? There are a lot of instances where the audiences will break into a split of laughter, but again, a word of caution, do not use your logical brain while you are watching the movie as there are some scenes which are in typical Hindi movie ishtyle. As for the answer to that question, I guess I will leave it to you to “see and find out.”

Abhishek’s performance is excellent (yes, may be I am a little prejudiced). Rani adds flavor and spice to the movie with her splendid acting performances. Amitabh’s performance is memorable.

Memorable scenes/dialogues:

  1. As I said previously, the meeting of Abhi and Rani in the railway station. The kind of love/relationship that is portrayed between them is that of a mature, understanding one without the usual husband-wife ego clashes/fights and at the same time like a breath of fresh air.

  2. The whole scene when they try to sell the Taj Mahal is too good, especially the dialogues when Abhi is taking the millionaire to the person who is willing to sell Taj Mahal and the way they con the Mayawati-look alike chief minister.

  3. The bar scene with the dialogues between Big B and Abhi, and the way they haul Big B into a rick after Rani realizes he is a cop.

  4. The scene when Big B goes to visit Abhi and Rani to offer them to work with the police (when they are trying to reform) and the dialogue, “muhjhe is izzat ki zindagi se bachalon and mein ek aur baar aam ki achar banaungi to mar jayoongi.” [don’t remember the dialogues accurately, but hope the meaning is conveyed].

  5. Their marriage with the unique vows – really cute.

  6. The ending of course is good.

Guest Appearances: Ash fans get to see her in the item song (which was really not required, but for her fans, guess must be a treat) and Shamak Dawar.

As for the negatives/cons, have already mentioned the not-so-logical scenes, and songs are boring, I should say, with not much of lyrics and just drag the movie.

If you are a kind of person who goes to a movie seeing who the director/producer/cast/music director, etc., is then here is the information, but for someone like me, a good story, a handsome hero, and of course, a good heroine will suffice.

Director: Shaad Ali

Producer: Yashraj Films

Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Amitabh Bachchan

Music: Shankar-Eshan-Loy

Lyrics: Gulzar

Cinematography: Abhik Mukhopadhyay

Editing: Ritesh Soni

Screenplay: Jaideep Sahni

All in all, a fun-filled, hatke entertainer for the whole family which will leave you in a happy mood, so go for it and have a gala time.

Be All you want to be :-)
