Hey there!
I am a blogger and tech enthusiast entered into the field in 2013.
If you get a Laptop with less RAM buy better GPU/CPU, you can upgrade the RAM Later. Remember you cannot upgrade CPU/GPU.
Gaming Laptop:
Please do not ask other people for which "Gaming Laptop" you should buy. Search for yourself as the shopkeepers just intend to sell every product they can and your family members are simply not updated enough to consult.
If you get a Laptop with a Hard Disk and have another place in your laptop which can hold another hard disk(Like most Gaming Laptops do), get an SSD. In the convenient language, its a very fast Hard Disk, usually 10 times to 40 times faster than regular hard disks.
Gaming Laptop got to have an NVIDIA GPU. Believe me AMDs GPU are far less powerful at the same cost and thats why Alienware and ASUS ROG do not use AMDs GPU in their models. PS. ASUS ROG stands for ASUS Republic of Gamers, is an equivalent line if Laptops like Alienware.
In the GPU section there are different class of GPUs. NVIDIA Starts its GPU name from 10 and goes upto 80. The higher the number the more powerful it is. For Example, NVIDIA GTX 960M(M stands for GPU made for Laptops) is powerful than NVIDIA GTX 950M. Chose at least the model "50". GTX 1050 has been released. 1150 is set to be released in 2018. I hope you got it.
In 2017, a minimum standard is 12GB of RAM. Believe me, I have two Laptops(HP and ASUS ROG) and 8GB just doesnt enough anymore for current gen programs. Forget about 4GB as most games will pressurize Hard disk to run most of the time at 100% which is bad for the health of the hard disk.
Chose any quad core processor, it will work fine. I believe most i7s in Laptops are quad core and I am sure picking any GPU of model 50 will eventually have an i7 Quad Core.
Power User:
If you are a power user, programmer and does not intend to play games you should look for a Laptop with an i7 and a minimum of 8GB RAM though I recommend 16GB. There are poor i7s too. You have to look for the model number of the Processor. It should be like i7-6200U. Avoid the laptops with processors ending withU. They are meant to be powersaving products not for powerful applications. Avoid dual cores i7s. Believe me, a dual core is simply no match for a quad core processor.
Budget:
If you just want a laptop to watch movies and go around with working on MS Office and Browsing Internet then you can buy just anything and it should work fine. However, I recommend to get at least an i3(any version) and a minimum of 4GB of RAM. Avoid Intel Pentium Processor. Avoid any sort of AMD processors.
Buying Guide:
Take your time. Search for Laptops online as the prices online are not regulated by the Shopkeepers but are intended for competition. For example, I bought my ASUS ROG from ebay which was priced 22k less than in Flipkart and Snapdeal. However I could have saved 26k as the price increased later. Basically I was monitoring the product for 2 weeks. You just need to find the best models available over the internet, check prices at different websites. Monitor the price rise and fall and you will know what to buy and when to buy.
