Second hand - not that easy

Buying a second hand car is as tough as getting married after divorce, because the concept remains the same, one wrong decision or stupid guess could screw the life up.(hold your horses do not get any idea. the bottom line how tough the marriage is!)

A second hand car although is better and a cheaper option if upgrading from two wheels to four wheels, but there are certain points that has to be taken care off. which revolves around Indian Scenario: -

1. What’s your depth?

Before we actually decide why we are moving to a second hand car, we need to understand how much we can afford to buy the second hand car, i.e. the price factor.

The current price in the market to the cost of accessories in the car, to insurance and other add ons which may pile up later.

2. How many?

once it is decided and the budget is fixed, we need to see the requirement whether its you, wife and kids, without mother in law or along with mother in law or if mother in law then sister in law and brother in law would be there, the bottom line! is you and family along with laws. then how many seats would be occupied? that’s the basic question?

3. Testing. 123 hello hello

This is important most of us actually ignore this thing, we tend to inspect the car by our faithful and loyal mechanic, who actually checks the engine by listening to the noise and smelling the exhaust and exclaims’sir its an original packing’, and we are happy, but we tend to forget minor things which may sound cheap, they are: -

  • tyres along with the extra tyre: - its important to check all the five tyre’s whether they are worn out or they are in good condition.

  • battery:- the battery can be checked thoroughly along with the serial number, as most of the dealers they replace it latter, when you go for delivery of the car.

  • other important parts:- plz make sure that you ask your mechanic to check the clutch and breaks, along with wiper and water motor and fan belt as later this could a curse on you!

  • Music system: - if not interested then remove it and cut the cost

  • interiors:- probably the dealer my sound excited, that its a leather seat, with good carpet. trust me its not that expensive. the additional cost would be not more than 10, 000/- so try to bargain it.

4. Claims, Insurance and Police records

once the budget is fixed, along with the needs and finally the car is decided and the engine is checked by your local trusted mechanic and he says go ahead, then its your responsibility to inquire about the claims taken on this car, as well the insurance policy weather status is due or what? and do remember to verify that the car, with registration number and chassis number is holding a police record? if yes, report it to police and there should not be any court summons and challan pending on that registration!.

5. How long?

congratulation for the car, but now it has to be decided that the car should not be an antique piece and should not be handed over to the kids as an heritage rather be decided that in how many years this car would be declared scrap and then would go for a new car!

6. Careful

once you have the car, plz make sure that the car is driven carefully and being inspected by the authorized and trusted technician as the lifespan of this car would be shorter than the new one

and the rest is be careful and happy driving!
