Calangute beach situated in North Goa is one of my favourite beaches.Calangute can be reached from Panaji or Mapusa. The cost from Panaji Bus stand to Calangute is Rs 7.If you chosse a motorcycle pilot or a taxi, it would cost you more.Bus is best means to travel if you want to interact with the locals and the tourists. As you get off at the last stop , the beach is a 2 minute walk from the bus stand. The large stone steps lead your way to the beach. As your feet touch the golden sand and as you feel the breeze blowing you are transported to another world. If you keep walking to your right , after a 1.5 km walk you shall reach the Baga beach. There are many activites such as watersports , swimming or even people watching which you can indulge in at the beach.Beach shacks are plenty but the food is not always hygenic. If you intend to spend the whole day at the beach I would advise you to take a sun bed at any of the beach shacks. In some shacks sun bed is free while in others it is charged at Rs 50 per day. If you have time you could also explore the Calangute village.Accomodation is available for all budgets. If yu are staying near the beach I would advise you not to miss your morning walks on the beach. The sunset is also worth watching. The only problem with Calangute beach is that it has been over commercialized. However there are areas where there is ample privacy and you can spend your time in peace.Best tme to visit Calangute is early October to late March.Avoid Christmas as it will cost your pocket more.
