My husband and couldnt wait to get rid of the rainy english weather so we jetted off to Tenerife in March for a weeks sun.
We stayed in Fanabe/Torviscas, it is the better part of Las Americas area.
We stayed in a beautiful newly built Hotel called Ocean Palace.
It was in a quiet area so we hired a car off the internet before arriving.
The weather was mostly in the late 70s and early 80s, but the last day was only 15 degrees and very overcast.
We werent so bothered as we were going home.
The area of Las Americas is very spread out.Like I said earlier there are several parts to this town.
Torviscas side is where the nicer and newly built hotels are.
The other end near to where the notorious Veronicas is , I thought was more like Blackpool.
Veronicas is an area where there are loads of bars and restaurants all on top of each other.
There are three buildings on top of each other. It real looks a dump.
We have been warned not to go there as it is very seedy.
There are stories of drugs, prostitution, stabbings, so we avoided that place.
We found an excellent bar called Amandas.
In fact we went every night, there were Stars in their eyes acts which were a right laugh.
They didnt always look or sound like them but the audience participation was hilarious.
You could eat there and they had a varied menu, mostly catering for the British.
There was a good choice of cocktails complete with sparklers. They cost about £2.25 but were massive.
One thing that really annoyed me though about Tenerife was the nuisance time share touts.
They reckon they are not time share, they just go under Direct Holiday bookings instead, its the same principal.
They are very convincing if you come acroos them for the first time ever.
They give you a scratch card and you are nearly always a winner.
They then jump up and down and shout for their mates telling them that we have hit the jackpot.
Then the other person goes off for 2 seconds to make an invisible phone call to verify the prize is till available.
Then the next thing is to be taken to claim your prize in a taxi complete with your credit card.
We fell for this once in Alcudia years ago and got stuck viewing property whilst plying us with booze for 9 hours.
We now know to walk on and ignore them.
The best thing to do is say nothing they go away eventually.
Las Americas has allsorts of entertainment ranging from bars, restaurants, (French, Greek, Chinese, German English)to Nightclubs, casinos.
There are waterparks, Zoos, Medeival Nights and the New Mutiny on the Bounty night.
There is something for everyone here, there are the quieter
resorts for people just wanting to relax, then there is the noisy party resorts.
All in all it is a great place.
