Innocent movie of war and love

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. This movie is a different stroke by Penelope Cruz. Along with her heavy Spanish accent she has played a wonderful daughter of the local doctor. She has played an innocent teenager from a peaceful beautiful village.

In this movie her childhood love is Mandras, a local fisherman who goes to WWII. All her letter goes unread and unanswered for a long time. She had started giving up hope of his return while the enemy commandant (Nicolas cage). Then her fiancé returns and somehow circumstantially she drifts between the two men. Finally there is always a happy ending. A good watch on the whole.

Nicolas cage is flawless as usual. John Hunt has a love for language as always. The music is great...though there is no loud songs, but the tempo and the folk and the lovely Italian chorus is great. The best part is the serene and heart touching melody of the mandolin.
