The author never makes an connections with scientific data or research as to WHY the box is better. Is it the items in the box that help parents transition into caring for the baby or is it the reduction of SIDS? Crib Accidents?
Being closer to the parents? Does the box create some kind of blanket of warm air? If I put my baby in any cardboard box will they have a better chance at thriving? There are plenty of studies that support the idea that baby baby sleeping with mom and dad or(even better) co-sleeping reduce the risk of SIDS. In Europe they think it’s absurd that we put our newborn babies in a "cage" and look at their numbers. I think it’s natural maternal instinct to want your newborn baby close to you at night.
