I’m going to be honest...I saw ’’Castaway’’ with no preconceptions at all because usually this kind of film just doesn’t make me go ’’Oh I gotta see that’’. I just thought, well a night out’s a night out and went. Am I glad I did! Ok, so it’s about 20 minutes too long and yeah, OK, the ending is kind of not there, and Helen Hunt is only in it for about 10 minutes yet gets star billing, but it’s really good!

You can probably gather the plotline from the title of the movie and the immense publicity campaign so I, as usual, won’t bother wasting time telling you what you already know! I was astounded by this film. It did nothing I expected it too, and it really is another Oscar worthy performance by Hanks. Although stuck on a desert island with nothing but Wilson (the ball!) to talk to, it doesn’t drag and it really holds your interest. There is no focus on any kind of rescue/search attempt, you are with Hanks all of the way, what he knows, you know.

All in all, I found it a compelling and interesting film. As soon as it starts to drag, the action moves on and if Hanks doesn’t chalk up another nomination for this then he should retire because he can do no better!
