After seeing how much success the show Survivor received, you would expect ... <pardon me> ... you would KNOW that a movie surrounding the same idea would arise into the movie world. This time, there is no competition, no payout and no naked homosexuals in this film.
Robert Zemeckis has taken this survivor idea and incorporated it into a ful length drama about a man who is facing the challenge of surviving alone.
Tom Hanks (Give him the oscar, he’s great!) plays an American business executive who washes up on a deserted island in the Pacific ocean after his plane crashes in a violent rainy storm. He is the only survivor who will remain alone for years and will have to use patience and the strength of the mind to overcome and distain from a high level of insanity.
Tom Hanks is definitely going to get his 3rd Academy Award. In some parts of the movie we see him alone with a coconut and feel regret and sorrow for the poor guy even though it may seem like a funny scene. Hanks is always that character in the film industry who you always feel sorry for.

Back in the United States we meet his lover, another great actress, Helen Hunt. She plays a strong role but only has a bit of screen time in this one.
The plane crash is soooo realistic you would think the director purposely crashed a plane to shoot the scene and not computer digitally enhanced it. The scene with Hanks crawling up on the tropical island ruins that image we all have of a deserted islan. Now if someone asks me ’’If You could live with any famous woman on a deserted island, who would it be?’’ My reply would be to reject the woman and the island because of some of the gruesome images of the island.
Overall Thoughts on Castaway .... should I give it a go?
The movie is no paradise and not even close to a gameshow. If you’re familiar with Tom Hanks’ dramatic work, you will love Cast Away!
