In an age where people are busily chanting the ’’be yourself ’’ mantra Steven Spielberg release’s a movie which totally contradicts the new age mantra, and the same people who believe in this mantra are awestruck by the movie ’’Catch me if you can’’ .’’Catch me if you can’’ , a movie based on a true story is about a teenager named Frank Abagnale Jr who dares to be everybody but himself.
Frank runs away from home only to become a con, when he was asked to choose between his mother and his father during their divorce.While away from home Frank lives a life which most of us dont even dare to dream of.He starts his new life by forging cheques, Frank very smartly uses both his talent and charm to cash the forged cheques.If I were in Frank’s place I would have been satisfied living on other people’s money but Frank has other plans for himself.
One day Frank Jr cheats the PanAm airlines by posing as a co - piolet, another day he is a doctor from Harvard school , he goes one step ahead by convincing his girlfriend’s father that he is both a qualified doctor and a lawyer.While Frank is busy playing different professionals.FBI Carl Hanratty is desperate to lay his hands on this guy who enjoys playing the game of impersonating people and forging cheques.When Carl lays his hands on Frank for the first time, Frank escapes by convincing him that he is Barry Allen from the police department.Thus this cat and mouse chase grips the audience till finally Frank is arrested in France, his mother’s native.During the course of the movie we see a friendship grow between Frank and Carl.Carl Plays a big role in rehabilitating Frank and also helps him get a job with the FBI.Frank’s relationship with is father is very beautifully depicted in the movie.
DiCaprio, Christopher Walken and Tom Hanks who play Frank Abagnale Jr, Frank Senior and Agent Carl Hanratty respectively are a treat to watch.Thus catch me if you can is a story of a boy next door who becomes a con due to circumstances arising out of his parent’s divorce.
This movie is definitely worth a watch.You would be amazed at the fact that this story is not fiction but fact.
