Great food @ Down-2-Earth Prices

Central Peninsula-

88, Satyam Sundaram Apts,

Sion Circle

Tel: 2403 1133/1177/ 2403 1144

Located CENTRALLY -bang on Sion Circle, you cant miss it.

Specialty- South Indian, Chinese , Punjabi.

Special Mention must be made about the CHAATS and MINI MEALS

This place is a vegetarian eatery, frequented by the residents in and around Sion -Matunga and also people passing by Sion Circle. Two points in favour are the strategic location and the excellent quality of food served.

Central Peninsula ( CP) is a part of the 3 Peninsula Restaurants near Sion Circle. The other two are Peninsula which a veg -fine dining and Peninsula Next -that serves veg as well as non-veg, both are located next to the Cine Planet Cinema off Sion Circle.

A movie at Cine Planet followed by a visit to one of the Peninsulas would be a good treat for anybody.

FOOD

The food is served very hygienically on good quality crockery.

The Southy stuff served with Sambhar in small copper kadhais and red and white coconut chutney. I tried the Rava Masala Dosa which was really yummy, no excess oil and tasted perfect. I just hope they wouldnt make the Sambhar sweet.

All South Indian stuff is between 15 and 30 bucks.

Any remixed Southy suff like Spring dosa, Schezwan Dosa , Paneer / cheese/ pav bhaji dosa- is between Rs.30 and 45 / -

Very good VFM I should say, considering the quality and quantity.

All Punjabi Gravy DIshes are between Rs.45 and 55/-, I recommend the mushroom masala and nargisi kofta. High on calories but also high on taste.

The heavy duty paneer subzis are little more priced than the veggies, but the paneer was soft and melted in the mouth.

An assorted bread basket for Rs.50 is a good deal and the onion kulchas and garlic naan were delectable (dont forget the clorets here, or make sure your spouse/ BF also eats the garlic naan)

The Chinese menu has all the regulars- nothing special on the menu, and the rates are all less than 65 Rs.

My favorites here are the Chaats and Mini Meals.

CP serves an amazing variety of chats, nearly over 30 varieties. Cheese chat at 50 is the priciest. But I highly recommend Lucknowi Kastha and Delhi Papdi Chaat. Served elegantly with a lot many ingredients and topped by fresh dahi, sev and an assortment of chutneys makes this delectable and irresistable, good for that quick bite before catching the movie at Cine Planet.

Mini Meals mainly comprise of Paranthas- here too they have nearly 25 types. My favorites being, Rajma-green veg-gobhi paratha, Cheese chilly with mushroom-babycorn paratha and good old alu paratha. The sprouted mung paratha was wholesome and good too. These are served with CHole and CHopped onions-cucumbers-tomatoes in fresh curd.

Beverages- Apart from the customary Filter kaapi at Rs.8- CP serves a good variety of mocktails, fresh juices and milkshakes - Fresh Kiwifruit milkshake is sure worth a try (Rs.65).

Desserts (Rajasagarji are thou listening??)-

You can either go for Faloodas, or other sinful deserts -sundaes, icecreams with all exotic names- which are all around Rs.40/-, or you could opt for kulfi- I hear the sitafal kulfi is really good.

Flavor & temperature : The food tastes fresh, presented well, and mostly piping hot (except for desserts)

The portion size is more than generous especially Chats- just one chat could fill you up completely.

The Ambience is cheerful, colorful, seating for around 40 people, spanking clean. The staff are pleasant natured and helpful and service is very fast.

The Restaurant is very crowded at Peak times and Holidays, a wait of atleast 15-20 min can be expected.Off-peak hours are comfortable though.

Reservations- AM not sure of this

In short, a very good combination of good food and extremely reasonable pricing with a nice ambience.
