Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom

Yeah, I know I’m late. There are already a dozen reviews out there saying the same thing - The movie was fun! You see, I take my time to decide if I like the movie enough to write a review on it. Apparently, I do. Not bad for someone who constantly whines about the lack of good movies:)

The plot is simple, and I know you already know it, so let’s not waste any time and space on it.

Shahrukh is the tainted, devastated and long-forgotten captain of the Indian Hockey Team. His ability to detach himself from his circumstances gives him a surreal touch that is fascinating. In a crude, colloquial way one could say that he lays a firm foundation with the bricks people throw at him(waah waah!)

Now for the Hockey team he’s coaching - Each one is painstakingly defined in minute details and then offset by a contrasting character that lend it incredible credibility. SRK’s job as coach is to take these representatives of diverse India and give them the “Indian” team spirit, so that they can rise above their differences and win the world over. It was like watching a piece of well crafted literature come alive. Real, entertaining and educating all at the same time.

There’s a saint who introspects and muses over the injustice being done to her, there’s a sinner who manipulates and pursues her selfish needs, and a little devil who speaks eloquently with both crude abuses and her fists(this one’s my personal favorite). Those who’ve seen the movie would know why:)

Then there is the "mem" from Chandigarh with her Ipod and celebrity boyfriend. Despite her lavish upbringing, she’s treated as yet another showpiece by her boyfriend, and hence craves personal success.

The hefty Punjabi girl is innocent and aggressive at the same time. As a contrast we have the shy linguistically challenged girl from Jharkhand.

Then there is the(un)holy trinity of the Hockey association that sneers at the girls wearing "nikkars" and playing hockey instead of being trained to be perfect housewives.

There is so much more to say, but let me not ruin the movie for you. Umm. ok, one last thing - Watch out for the registration scene when the Mizo girls snap at the official - "Aapko apne hi desh mein mehmaan bulaaya jaaye to kya aap khush hoge?"

Comments and criticism are welcome as usual:)
