I am too late in this forum .But better late than never....
Unlike his last two films, Sudhir Mishra was in total command this time. For, in Chameli, he strikes the right balance between form and content. A cohesive script and technical finesse have been merged beautifully and that makes Chameli an experience to cherish.
The very first scene give the impression that what one is about to witness is an unique film. After establishing main characters, the story shifts to the main track in the second reel itself. The pace gains momentum when Karina is arrested by police. The instinct of Kareena and Rahul and the rawness they exude, is where the director scores. There are several sequences which have the unmistakable stamp of Sudhir Mishra, notable among them being the police station portions and flasback portions...The climax also takes the viewer unaware.
Director Sudhir Mishra deserves a pat on his back for choosing an offbeat subject. To state that this is his finest effort would be apt
The cinematography and background music compliment the efforts of Sudhir Mishra. The camerawork is top class .Music too is not a hindrance to the goings-on. Each song comes at the right situation and is very likeable.
Every character in Chameli has a well-defined role, which is why every performance stands out at the end of the day.Kareena emotes well, delivers her lines with confidence and looks nice. Even in the high-charged dramatic scenes, not once does she go overboard.Rahul is in form yet again. The actor seems to be taking giant strides with every film and this is among his finest performances.
A bit on story
Kareena Kapoor is a street walker on the footpaths of Flora Fountain in South Mumbai. She is streetwise and tough with a whore’s bad tongue and has lived a lot of life since her birth on the streets three years ago. One stormy August evening when the city is flooded, Rahul Bose, an investment banker, gets stranded when his car fails.
She disgusts him in the beginning but as they talk, more because there is nothing to do than the fact that they are drawn to one another, he begins to see beyond the harsh makeup and harsher manner. Eventually he gets drawn into her world and by the time the night is over he has fought for her, got into the lock up for her and paid off her dues to her pimp
Worth your time and money.....
