Sadly, its not the location. The casino is part of the Vanguinim Valley Resort at Dona Paula which is a Rs.150 taxi ride(Rs. 100 by auto rickshaw) from Panaji City. You will cross Miramar Beach on the way to Chances. The road near the casino gives a roller coaster experience but don’t worry. Once you get there, its all smooth sailing.
Entry Fee: Rs 200/- which is inclusive of government tax, free drinks(mostly soft drinks / tea-coffee), free snacks(mostly grilled sandwich) and free dinner from 8.00 pm to 11.30 pm. You may get complimentary beer or whiskey too, if you are playing on a blackjack / roulette / baccarat table. No doubt, Chances is the best value for money casino in Goa. The quality of free dinner buffet is also decent. You get soup, dal, two veg dishes, two non-veg dishes, rice & dessert. Pav roti is complimentary. You can order tandoori roti / nan at a reasonable price if pav roti is beyond your liking.
Gaming: Being an old Casino, they still have the classic reel type IGT slot machines that work with Rs. 10 coins. You will find simple looking house wives pulling the lever on these machines all the time. Apart from the slots, they have 2 blackjack tables(minimum bet Rs. 100 / 200), one baccarat table and the rest of the space is occupied by roulette tables and the majestic SEGA Royal Ascot.
Chances is perhaps the only casino in India that has SEGA Royal Ascot. It is a multi-player horse racing simulation that has electronically controlled plastic horses running on a large table-top race course. The players sit around the table each having a gaming console in front of them. Minimum bet is Rs. 10 on each race but your winning depends on the odds assigned to each horse before the race begins. Along with the odds, a brief description of the condition of the horse and its previous winning record is provided to you so that you can make an informed choice of which horse to bet on. Believe me, its fun. I am not saying that you will win a lot of money on this game but you will enjoy even if you lose.
Blackjack tables in this casino are digital, aptly called DIGITAL 21. The dealer presses a few buttons to control the game. The cards pop up on a video screen in front of you. The table has in-built sensors to detect your bet when you place chips on top of the sensors. Being digital, the game is played very fast. It has a six deck electronic shoe that automatically sorts the cards. The video display on the shoe tells you how many cards are remaining in the shoe.
Roulette tables in Chances are also unique. About half of them are electronically controlled with a video console for each player to place their bets. But only the betting consoles are video. The rolling ball is real and the game is 100% random. No video roulette here. But the best part about these electronic roulette tables is that the minimum inside bet(on particular numbers etc.) is only Rs.10. You can place an outside bet(say on red or black color) for Rs.50. Again, the only casino in Goa where you can play Roulette with a Rs. 10 bet. On the manually operated Roulette tables in Chances the minimum inside bet is Rs. 50.
The casino is usually very crowded on weekends but not so crowded on weekdays. You can even visit this place in the afternoon and you will find many tourists inside enjoying their casino experience. A perfect family casino if the atmosphere is your concern. And it is no doubt the best casino for someone who has never been to a casino before.
