College adventure at CHANDAKA...

During my 4 years of Engineering studies at Gandhi Institute, Badaraghunathpur, Bhubaneswar, there were few times we made picnic and sightseeing activities at Chandaka. I would like to share my pleasurable experience with all the viewers.

Chandaka is one huge forest reserve towards Northern Bhubaneswar and covers up in Cuttack as well as Khurda district.

The Deras Dam, of Chandaka sanctuary is situated close to our college at around 12 kms. And the approachable road is very good enough to accomodate even 4 wheelers & bus. Most of the neighbouring colleges and locations often visit Deras dam for picnic and to enjoy Chandaka wildlife. Even some beautiful spots are available for ODIYA movie shootings.

Chandaka is basically an Elephant reserve sanctuary. Few occasions wild elephants also encounter neighbouring villages. So adventurers are advised strictly regarding rules & regulations in elephant prone locations. There is another Jhuma Dam towards interior but Deras is a better option for enjoyment, photoshoot and picnic. There are also several watchtowers which can get you a wide angle photography and rest shed in the form of tribal format to give a total different feel.

My tour also included taking bath in the dam. It is a risky one for person not knowing about swimming, as there is no life guards. So small children should be avoided. Our group indeed doesnot encounter any wild animals but some variety birds attracted a lot.

There is no accomodation niether any hotels or restaurants. No safety after sunset. So its a total daylight tour and full of entertainment.

From busy life of Bhubaneswar if its needed to go calm & enjoying life, its out there at Chandaka.
