Chandigarh - The Pride Of Punjab

As the name suggests Chandi - garh. It was named after the famous chandi temple around 20 km from Chandigarh City. The city was planned by Le Corbusier a famous French architect-planner and is one of the biggest cities in Punjab and also the capital of Punjab. It has everything from the old glorious rock gardens to the modern restaurants and antique buildings. The administrative block of chandigarh is divided into sectors.

The dimensions of the sector and its creation are best explained in Le Corbusier’s own words: ’’Its dimensions are an outcome of studies made between 1929 and 1949 of the Spanish ’Cuadra’ of 100 to 110 meters. A useful reclassification of the (Cuadras) led me to adopt a ratio of harmonious dimensions and productive combinations: seven to eight ’cuadras’ on one side, ten to twelve ’cuadras’ on the other, that is to say 800 meters by 1200 meters.’’ And this was the ’’Sector’’ issued from an ancestral and valid geometry established in the past on the stride of a man, an ox or a horse, but now adopted to mechanical speeds.

The city is sorrounded by the Sukhna lake and has added many attractions to it recently. The much heard of the rock garden is one of the main attraction of Chandigarh and besides numerous gardens it has got parks , amusement centers and shopping complexes. Some other attractions include the Terrace garden in sector 33 , Pinjor garden near Punchkula , Sukhna Lake and the Timber Train in Parwanoo.

The city is also famous for it’s commercial trade with other states. It houses among india’s best branded shops to the cuisine hotels and market places. The famous Sector 17 has everything where one can buy whatever he wants to from the pepperoni cornflakes to delicious lassi’s . The whole day open bars and the pubs keeps the night life on the go.

Being near to Shimla the climate is cool and usually good.

The best time to visit this city is during the monsoons when u can get wet under the rain the whole day and watch the awesome greenery that falls on the city during rains.

The only thing that needs to be warned of is the pollution making it’s entry into the city. The city is getting polluted and strict measures should be taken to avoid pollution.
