Changing Face of Cinegoer

In the last 6 months around 50 films have been released and none of them had been successful barring RAAZ. The Bombay film industry (I hate to call it bollywood) had tried all the past formulas which had been successful in the 70’s and 80’s. Why there is sudden decline in the no. of hit films? What I think is by and by the audience had become more intelligent. They are not ready to receive the same crap they have been receiving for last decade or two. If you closely monitor the films which hit the jackpot in 70’s and 80’s were pieces of crap.

Cine Audience is just fed up of watching the same story in new forms again and again. They want to see something substantial and fresh when they enter the movie theater. This may be due to the influx of Hollywood films and different television channels in the 90’s.

The Indian movie directors and critics alike do not comprehend the problem in the right perspectives. They have been toeing the same line for past few years. There is pure lack of good creative ideas. Our directors are spending time and money on costumes, locations, dances, music etc on all aspects of film making except Story and Screenplay. Story and Screenplay are basically the foundation stones of a Movie. There is no harm in copying ideas, but the adaptation should be nice. For last 25 years Subhash Ghai, a noted film maker is making films on same theme and same type of story, please give us a break.

Old directors should come up with some new ideas or retire to give way to new generation of directors. Good directors never repeated themselves, take the example of Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy etc. We need good and innovative directors with fresh ideas and fresh themes.

We need more and more directors Like Ram Gopal Verma and Farhan Akhtar who are ready to experiment with new ideas. If you closely monitor the last 10 Best Picture Oscar winners, believe me they all are made on different themes, no two movies are on the same theme.
