Great chemistry

I love this movie. I have watched it like more than 10 times. Tabu and Big AB is a real treat. To watch two of the best actors is really one to marvel. Although the movie tackles a touchy subject, a May-December relationship, you never really get the sense that it’s about age until the groom-to-be has to go to India and ask the bride-to-be father to marry his daughter.

But between them, it was never about age. It’s about two people, mature and intelligent people, who weren’t necessarily for love or relationship, met and eventually fell in love. I love the humor in the movie and no other actors  could have played these roles of Budhadev Gupta and Nina Verma better than Tabu and Big AB. Tabu and Big Ab are two of the best and most versatile actors in Indian Cinema. Not many actresses could have stood up to par with Big AB but Tabu did.

She played her character to a T and with confidence and ease. You never sense that she’s intimidated. What’s so amazing about Tabu is that she becomes her character so you never get the real sense that she’s acting.  Her character was a breath of fresh air. And Big AB was great and very funny. His character is often at a loss for words when he tries to play it cool with Tabu’s character who answers him with a straight-face, so you never know if she’s kidding or not, until she gives you that clever smirk.

The supporting cast is impeccable. The 9-year old Sexy played by a very adorable Swini Khara was fantastic. She’s very mature beyond her years. The great Zohra Sehgal, who plays Big Ab’s mother was funny and sarcastic. And Paresh Rawal, although her overacted at times, was acomic relief.

The Indian Cinema is changing and it’s for the better. I like that there wasn’t any singing and dancing in the movie. This movie was not meant to be a cute romance. Leave that with the young, bubble gum stars who can’t act. The difference between this movie and Nishabd, which was received poorly by the audience and critics, is the undertones of lust and sex. Big AB’s character wasn’t going through a mid-life crisis, he just fell in love with Tabu’s character. The progressionw as natural. And of course, having Tabu made alot of difference.

Last but not the least, it is so nice to see Tabu in a light role. She’s always had a knack for comedy and this really showcased her talent. She’s never looked more beautiful. I have always thought she’s stunning and very natural. You can’t help but fall in love with her.
