Ever played street cricket? Or atleast watched it? Or been mother / sister of one who has done the above? (I guess that about covers everyone!) Then I guess you are going to like this movie. One of the rare movies that has no hero or heroism, and instead captures events as-is, but still manages to keep the viewer interested. Its a story of two rival cricket teams.
Very beautifully told are the various happenings leading to the tournament final, not only in the actual cricket field, also, and more, off it. Like the boy who shifts residence and finds him out of his native team, and for good measure, is targeted by the new neighbours, the old rivals. The boy who falls in love with the sister of his teams star player.
The team coach and sponsors. Virtually every frame is the movie ripples with humour, only to be expected when the movie is all about youth. The boys drink up when they win, also when thry lose, and are always smoking. but this does not seem jarring, as similar scenes in Boys did. Have we, the audience, grown up? Or is it better made than Boys? The cast is virtually all-new. And every one has done a neat job.
Music score by Yuvan is fantastic, and is a major contributor to the movies youthful ambience. Direction by (newcomer?) Venkat is good, and some scenes, like the bet match with school kids on the beach, stand out. Definitely worth a watch.
