Every time my parents planned a holiday, Chennai use to be their first option.however I was very apprehensive about the place , but last year when they insisted to go to Chennai , I agreed..........before going there, I always use to wonder , how will I communicate with people?What will I eat, as most of their food will be cooked in coconut oil? Why do they talk about Marina beach so much, one can see more beautiful beaches in Goa?
It was in durga puja holidays that we all went to Chennai. It took two and a half day for us to reach chennai, the AC II tier made us feel very comfortable and ironically the Pantry car of Ernakulum Express served fantastic food, so the train journey was great. We reached Chennai around 4AM and took a room at the Rail Yatri Niwas. It was around 10 AM that we joined a bus ride , that took us all around the city & even at outskirts.
The first place , we went was "GOLDEN BEACH". Beautiful place, with gr8 swings & slide. Infact this is a gr8 shooting location for many south Indian film too. The MTV roadies5.O was shot here in Chennai.
Next we went to Crocodile tank. Well I don’t like dis place very much, all u get to see is crocodile & crocodile of various species where u can hardly notice the difference. Next we went for a SEA Lion Show. poor animal performed for all the people. And it was a great show. you also get to see jokers waving at the entrance.
Next we went to Kanchipuram, it’s a long journey of about 2 hrs. there u get to see d famous Vishnu temple & also get to buy great silk sarees. the temple was beautiful, even if u r not too much into puja & stuff , u feel very nice & pious. the whole ambience is just exquisite.
My mom also bought few sareers for herself and needless to say , they r beautiful. you will be puzzled to see their collection & will not be able to decide , which one to buy. This is how our first day ended at chennai, we reached the yatri niwas around 11 in night..
Next day after breakfast , we went to Snake park. Weird place , you get to see different kinds of snakes and next we went to marina beach. it’s a beautiful place, where one can spend entire day, without getting bored. if u like the shells & those shankhs & kauris, this is the best place to buy them, but don’t forget to bargain. do buy pearls. it’s very cheap out here..
Our stay at chennai was long, but there are the places you should visit and some tips , as it might help you. Avoid buses, go for auto. Do enjoy the south Indian food, it’s gr8: go for those typical food that is served on banana leaf. Don’t forget to eat dosa , on golden beach, even if u don’t like it. People are basically nice, but be cautious
it’s a very clean city , so keep it the same.
Don’t stay at Rail yatri niwas, there are good hotels around the chennai station, go for them. If you have time, do plan a visit to Otty too, I will suggest you to go to otty by the toy train. it’s a lifetime journey, so go for it.
