Chess is a really good game that any one can learn to play I learnt a few years ago and at first the game looked really complicated trying to remember what moves were and what you can and cant do but once you get the hang of it its easy.
Chess is played in many countries and chess competitions are held , you can ever become a grandmaster, you can play on line buy it cd rom or just play the board game of it.
The pieces on a board are laid out as followed and are the same for both black and white
pawn---pawn---pawn---pawn--pawn--pawn--pawn--pawn
castle-knight-bishop-king-queen-bishop-knight-castle
The object of the game is to get the other player’s king into checkmate, which is when the king can not make a legal move. Players take it in turn to move one of there appropriate pieces, only one piece may occupied a space on a board at one time , you can not jump over a piece on the board except for the knight.
The white piece always starts the game at the start of the game there is not many pieces you can move at the start of the game, (ever one of the pawns or a knight )
King can move one space in any direction but can not move some were that will make it into check and can take one of the other player pieces if it is in the space you wish to move it to as long as it does not put you into check,
Check is when a players king is in threat of capture from the other players piece but they can still move their king or another piece to stop it from being check.
Queen can move in any direction and can take as many spaces as you wish as long as another piece is not in the way, but you can take any piece that is on a square that you want to move to.
Bishop can move diagonally as many squares as you like but must stay on the same colour square that it is on i.e. black or white and can take a players piece if it on the square you want to move to
Knight moves differently to the other pieces it move in a L shape ever one space up and 2 along or 2 spaces up and 1 along to the left or right
Pawn can only move one space forward except for the first time it moves it can move 2 squares forward,
Pawns take a players piece by moving diagonally but only 1 square that is the only time you can go diagonally. If you can get one of your pawns to the far side of the board you can exchange that pawn for,
A piece that has been captured from another player i.e. you lost your queen so you exchange the pawn for the queen.
Castling is when you are allowed to move both the king and castle at the same time so the king moves 2 squares to the left or right and the castle is moved so that it stands the other side of the king , you can not castle if there are any pieces in-between the king and the castle or the king is in check.
Check is when a players piece is in threat of being captured but the king but can still move or can move a piece to stop check.
Checkmate is when the player can not move the king or another piece legally and the other player that has got the other player into checkmate wins
Stale mate is when a player is not in check but can not move with out putting it self into check
Hope I have not bored you too much lol
Its a great game once you get the hang of it gets those brain cells working
