I am starting to feel like the mouthshut.com food critic. No one would guess I love eating out huh??
China Garden...does Nelson Wangs dream need any introduction? However heres a little rundown on one of my favourite places in Bombay.
Location: Originally at Kemps Corner but now at HajiAli in the Crossroads Mall. This has definitely changed the look of the crowd, it is no longer as upmarket as earlier.
Ambience: I preferred the earlier split level look but this place is okay in itself, I guess. It is a bit cluttered and noisy but nothing unbearable. The Chinese dragons and laughing Buddhas add that Oriental touch.
Service: Lovely, lovely service, all the waiters, managers, stewards.Nelson Wang , when he is around will make you feel like a long lost friend.
Food: Huge selection.I have tried a lot on the menu and I am down to a few favourites.
Soups: Tom yam
Starters: Special pepper prawns, Haka chicken, Pepper Chicken, Peking Way(a cheaper and pretty decent alternative to Golden Dragon, only they use chicken instead of duck)
The Peking Way is thin flour wraps served with crispy chicken, cucumbers, onions and plum sauce.
For the vegetarians the fried corn cream is a MUST.
Main course: Red Thai curry(with prawns) all the way.Mouchi chicken and Sa Po chicken all the way.Try the curry with steamed bread. The soya and wine chilli fish, so delicate, so delicious. For the kids, try the lemon chicken, mine love the sweet, lemony taste.
Dessert: pancakes, mousse
Enjoy your free kimchi while you wait for your food.
If you are in a larger group , try their set menu at Rs 650/- per head (last I knew).A regular meal will set you back Rs500/- plus but its well worth eating in one of the best Chinese places in Bombay!
Who knows you may see Shahrukh Khan walk in.....I did!
