Chinese Room is one of the oldest Chinese restaurant in the Kemps Corner, Malabar Hills neighborhood. I know the place as I am frequent visitor to restaurant due to proximity to my place and habit from my childhood.
It is at the corner of the Godrej Chowk, next to Kemps Corner flyover. During week-end it is difficult to get a parking spot. Till few valet was available but not anymore. My advise would be that it is better to take BEST bus either from Nana Chowk or Napean Sea Road. Taxi would be another alternative but if you are in a group of more than 4 people then bus is definitely better.
There is appropriate attire (dress code) described by the restaurant (plz note many places in South Mumbai have a dress code, so ensure that you check with them while making reservations, ZODIC Grill, Khanbat and till recently China Garden are the classic examples)
The restaurant possesses the look of a old traditional Chinese Lunch house, red lights, teak wood furniture and is very spacious. These days, it also serve Indian food due to merger with Kwality, which was once across the street but I would recommend Chinese over the Indian.
The place has a good collection of wine, whiskey and rum. I prefer Scotch with chilly honey potato chips, shredded lamb and dry garlic chicken. They are really mouth watery.
If I happen to be there for lunch, I choose either Man chow or hot-n-sour soup. They are very good. My advise would be not to try Chicken Manchurian or sweet corn soup, I didn’t like it much.
Main course should include, Singaporean noodles, Chilly Chicken, Veg Manchurian and chicken fried rice.
If you eat a lot then a meal for 4 without drinks could cost you anything between 1200 – 1500, which I thinks is not a lot for good food.
