First of all, hats off to the guys at CHIP for bringing out an excellent magazine.
First things first, I DO NOT buy this magazine for the two free cds and the one free dvd that come bundled along with it. CHIP has been a part of my life for sometime now and I intend to keep it that way.
WHAT THIS MAGAZINE IS:
Intellgent computing is what they say and that is what they deliver, and boy, do they deliver well ! CHIP is a monthly magazine, that dwelve into the fields of computing and IT. U will not find any reviews or articles on home theatre systems and colour televisions inside. India, now booming as an IT industry ( and the worlds fastest growing as said on clickonline on bbcworld) gives its citizens a major oppurtunity to come across major IT milestones, both in hardware and software and CHIP is the perfect medium for us.
I dare say that my knowledge on computers, their hardware, software and all other paraphenilla (however meagre it may be ) is all thanks to this magazine and I take pride in saying that I am not the only one. There are a lot of teenagers and older people alike who will agree with me on this.
WHAT THIS MAGAZINE CONTAINS:
When u buy this magazine, u will be immediately see its extra contents which are the two compact disks and a DVD. The two cds being categorized into tools and toys, with the fomers one containing new softwares, patches for old ones and other tools such as system security, office productivity demos, antivirus updates and such. The toys cd however, u guessed it, has demo games, patches, movie trailers and game trailers. The dvd containing a mix of the two and containing lots of useful applications as well.
CHIP features a cover story every month, a few like building the fastest computer, keeping your computer data secure and much more, the cover story of this month being on the gadgets that we wud like to possess depending on our budget. The best is the Top Gear section, where the latest in hardware, be it for gaming, mp3 players, . cell phones or printers are reviewed. Reviews on products by different brands is also done ( MFD’s, harddisks, mp3players etc ) to help u chose the best one which will suit ur needs based on ur budgets and ur performance requirements. Dont worry about new technological breakthrough’s, as soon as it happens, u can bet that it will be there in this mag, with every thing clearly explained with pics and maybe even photos, and even the jargon being ’’de-jargonised ’’ !
Software section brings to u the latest in software, be web development, multimedia or even security being reviewed with both pros and cons and even the contact address being given, in case u want to purchase them. Most of these freeware and shareware software already present in the dvd given, so u dont need to download them.
Dr.CHIP offers solutions to almost every hardware and software problems, of course u needing to tell them about ur problem. The next best section is the tips and tricks where u get to tweak ur operating systems or other software for maximum efficiency, with all steps neatly given with diagrams.
I wud say that this is a must have mag for both geeks and non-geeks alike ! The contents being easy to read and grasp wud appeal to both types equally. If u want to subscribe to a magazine which offers u the best of all that te IT field can offer, look no further !!!
