Two Words : Great Movie !
Five Words : Not for the Indian Public !
Most of the Indians or Bollywoodian’s do not respect or appreciate the ’outside the square box’ movies .. They obviously want their sugar-coated love stories or which are real easy on the brain .. Thats like following the theory ’Man - I paid for the movie, now u expect me to think as well’. As we all know, movies are made to earn crores in the end .. but at the same time movies are also made to show some real cinema or to display a true intent. I guess this would have given enough ’food for thought’ that where is this review of the movie going.
’Chocolate’ is not a classic but at the same is not the worst movie as it is made out to be in most of the reviews. I wil not review or reveal the story but the intentions of a smart director. If you wish to watch a thriller which has all the twists and turns which even 20 hindi movies put together wont .. then grab it now. The movie is made in tru hollywood style where they take a while to build up the story and then get into the action. This easily has the viewer satisfied by the end of it as the suspense is revealed just when the viewer is ready for it. Not the usual hindi thriller where the whole movie is abt .. ’Khooni Kaun?’ n u get to knw it was the naukar all the while ..
’Chocolate’ is not original too .. it has ’the usual suspects’ written all over it .. That was probably one of the biggest reason of me not enjoying this flick to the max .. otherwise I wud have loved it a lot more than what I have already .. Dnt read the reviews of people with ’bird brains’ who didnt get the movie at all .. If ur a thriller seeker .. this I the one for you ..
’Chocolate’ has its flaws and issues .. It gets a little slow in the middle part .. the movie can easily be trimmed by 15-20 minutes ... It picks up real well just after the interval and places the viewer on the suspense track again ..
As in for the performances,
Anil Kapoor and Irfan khan are the real players .. They have enacted their performances as according to the pace and need of the movie .. nothing more, nothing less ...
Tanushree does well as a hooker .. quite convincing there and sitting there I couldn’t really find any experienced actresses to enact the same .. quite a difficult one there.
Sunil does considerably well but does not get as much scope .. Emraan is good or shud I say ’did the job as asked to’, he wasnt exceptionally good or bad but just normal, tho he suited the role totally .. Arshad convinces again as a great co-player and does well with his comic relief in an intense thriller.
Songs didnt really have a place in the movie and did look forced .. I a m not sure on this but have a feelin’ that to keep the story flowing with the songs, they were not shown in full except for ’mummy’ I think. ’Halka Halka’ is an amazing song and has already touched the charts .. ’Jhuki Jhuki’ was foot-tapping
Cinematography does need a special mention .. Done well to keep up with the thriller
Editing could have been much better .. Though they managed to keep up with the Hollywood thriller .. I think they missed the mark by more than a mile.
A good thriller as to the Indian standards .. I thoroughly enjoyed and anyone watching.. plz do not leave the theatre till the end even if you dont like it a lot .. Its worth staying till the end .. MARK MY WORDS
