Galileo Telescope: Completely useless

I searched all over the internet and in bangalore city for a decent telescope which could be used for terrestrial viewing. Options were very few and Galileo looked promising, going by the specs they’d put on the website and all information provided there.

I was excited looking at the options and the prices compared to features available, atleast on the website. I finally decided on Skyview III (not sure about the name then, it was almost a year back) costing about 10K. I placed the order (credit card) and promptly received the parcel in about 10 days time.

The website had promised me a very powerful scope with a sturdy tripod and many small stuff.... I opened the package and found all the stuff...no problems till now. The package even said that I could return it within ten days if not satisfied. Yhe biggest mistake I made was not checking it out immediately.

I was a little busy then and could not get the time to assemble and test it within the ten days. After about two weeks I got the time and then. It was too late. To say the least, the product I got for 10 thousand Rs. Was not worth even 3 thousand! There was a big lightweight scope (not manufactured by galileo as they claim) but some Konuscope, supposed to be imported. The quality is poor and the eyepieces are the worst part. One just can’t see anything thru them. There are 3 eye pieces and the whole package is just useless. The entire kit is just worthless and can not be used at all. My camera with 10x zoom is far better and I can atleast see things with that.

This company seems to be basically conning people into buying worthless imported stuff (kidstuff, basically) claiming to manufacture high quality optics etc. I learnt my lesson the hard way. I suggest none of you get conned by them.

Lastly, the tripod is a joke!..they say it is a sturdy, outdoor one. It doesn’t even stand properly, leave alone being sturdy. I guess three sticks tied with a rope can give you better stability.

I’m ready to sell mine for three thousand Rs. If anyone wants !!
