Doctors Ignorance - patients are mere specimen

I had bad experience with a quite renowned doctor and our family doctor looking into my health situation quoted that I should file a suite against him but in his calmness told it would be in vain.

Well, all this happened few years back when I was in school and I had swollen knee. Ayurveda did not help and neither did the visit to few doctors. Later I heard of a Orthopedics at St. Martha’s.

Dr. Surendra K.T was the HOD of Orthopedic department. After few visits and x-rays he concluded that there is a unwanted muscle growing in between the knee joint. The HOD said if not operated, I would have to loose my below knee leg due to stop of blood circulation.

I never wanted a single mark on my body ever in my life, but for that I feared of loosing my leg, I agreed to get operated. The Doc(Dr. Surendra K.T) had told it would be a biopsy kind of surgery by which he would remove the unwanted muscle.

Later post operation, I suffered the worse days of my life and still have the bad effect of it. He advised for dressing for a month in the interim of once in 2 weeks. But it was plastered my skin above and below knee developed skin irritation and pus formed all over those area.

My parents were totally scared and with anonymity approached our family doctor. Our family doc was anxious to know why there 3 inch operation done when it was meant to be only a biopsy. Also that there was no need for plaster put over more than a week once stitches were removed.

I remember in the operation theater before Anesthesia(or probably a sedate) was injected to me, the HOD was instructing his medical students(house surgeons) about my scenario and what has to be done. My guess is that the HOD has not operated me and probably his students would have performed it. This is certainly doctor’s IGNORANCE/CARELESS ATTITUDE towards a patient.

Luckily with my family doc’s timely help I recovered from skin problems and the operated wound healed finally but was quite delayed. Later, since I struggled with my knee issue, my family doc suggested me to Dr. Thomas Chandy. In turn Dr. Thomas referred the issue to Dr. Chandrasekhar Immunology.

The doctor was shocked why was I operated when actually there was no unwanted muscle growth issue there. In fact he rightly diagnosed me as JAR. Since then I’m living with this problem along with the side effect of unnecessary operation which has ruined my legs partial functionality.

This review is not intended to put down anyone’s name/fame/career but to humbly request these highly respected Doctor fraternity to treat patients as human first and treat the disease. Please don’t treat as a lab specimen!

Also a small advise to all of u out there. please get your family doctor/trusted physicians advise before you get treatment from these doctors, cause even if the docs are good, well known the management is always greedy and would cost ur life.
