Ramble on GNU/Linux continued

It is now 3 years since I wrote my previous review, ’Ramble on GNU/Linux’. GNU/Linux has come a long way since then. In the last 2 years It has made great progress in usability. A lot more people are asking about it and also trying it out. Linux Mint a variant of Ubuntu Linux is focused on usability. Everything works out of the box in it. Just install and start using it. Audio/Video, Wireless etc which used to take quite a bit of doing to get working now works on the fly. Installing a Linux distribution on to a pen/flash drive is a breeze. Boot from it and you have a truly portable OS.I just take my USB stick along and stick it in PC’s with the ability to boot off USB drives and I have my own OS running. I do not have to touch the OS that is installed on the system. Nether will I leave a’trail’ behind. MS Windows has nothing in comparison.

But unfortunately the attitude of people and the mind share that Microsoft owns has not been affected much in spite of the Vista debacle.

I can only conclude that progress is always painful and slow.

Even’free’ cannot be thrust down anybody’ s throat.

But I have gained so much from it, that I will forever be grateful to all those known and unknown who made this happen.

Thanks people you have done a incomparable service to humanity. And I for one salute you all from the bottom of my heart.
