I had no intentions to get computer speakers as my default sound system....so here goes the story. Had to relocate to a new city, could not spend much...had a discman and FM receiver...next urgency...speakers! no prizes for guessing that!!!
So I followed my friends advice... Attach computer speakers to Discman. Next hunt: look for good speakers. Saw another friends low budget (Rs. 1000) Intex speakers...naahhh too bad for me.......next hunt....Altec Lansing? Creative? if Creative then 2.1 or 4.1 or 5.4???? The world is in so much chaos!!!
Called my good computer savvy friend.....he picked up his mobile amongst loud music. I was startled!! Hey Abhay, what?s that, I asked. Its my desktop speakers...creative 2.1 SMS 370, he replied. Ah my problem was solved!! I went to a vendor and got the same for Rs 2000.... installed with great zeal.... and lo! It was working.... nice bass (had to keep less than half to avoid being bashed up by room-mate!!!!).. Nice depth...but wait a minute...what?s this...where is the treble? High pitched sounds...man somethings wrong! So gross!!! Called Abhay Man what have u recommended me?...Turn on the Equaliser of your discman, Abhay replied. I did so...slight improvement..... Now the FM player is connected......again poor treble.... man I cant enjoy my FM!!!! I was fuming...wanted to teach that Abhay a good lesson!!!!
Anyways......all I have to say following this is that if these speakers are attached to desktop with a winamp and equalizer, they will sound too good. But for Discman, you better have a hi-fi equalizer set between the Discman and the speaker set!!! Will probably get used to the sound...or get a spare Eq. lying at home...what a mess!
Here is my final word. Get Creative 4.1 or 5.1 (check r sound card supports them)...for a best sound; get DIGITAL 5.1 speakers...(Too expensive though!!!). Thoroughly test speakers to a level of personal satisfaction!!!
