I bought a Whirlpool fully automatic washing machine 3 years ago, enticed by their Brand name. It has been a big disaster right from the beginning. The machine has malfunctioned many times, and their service teams’ visit to our home has become a regular affair. For the record, the machine has malfunctioned 8 times in 3 years. Whirlpool folks, of course could be least bothered.
We have been hugely unhappy not just with the product but with the delays in service and repair. Their call center is very responsive, but after that it’s like a black hole. For instance, even currently, the machine has broken down, and since the last nine days it’s been persistent follow-ups from us and regular goof ups from their side. Even when I insisted and escalated the complaint, the supervisor was even more unhelpful and completely unapologetic. You can’t do much in such cases but feel frustrated and keep breaking your head with them. It’s not just the inconvenience, but the ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude which enrages one further.
Whirlpool prices its washing machine at a bit of a premium vs the Korean Brands, but clearly, very less of that prices goes into building a good reliable product. Most of it seems to go in as profits, to people sitting in ivory towers, big ad spent, and inefficient service set-up.
Buyers beware. Check the product quality and the service promise that lurks beneath the shiny showroom and the glamorous ads of Whirlpool.
