Ready ! Set ! Diet !

So, you gained a little unwanted weight.  You put a few pounds on while on vacation.  You splurged on all the great holiday foods.  Now what?

Now you must go about modifying those bad eating habits!

I’m going to tell you some of the things I do to help shed those nasty, unwanted pounds.

Let me start off by saying, DO NOT skip meals.  if you skip breakfast or lunch, you’ll only be hungrier at you next mealtime.

Limit your intake of salt and foods high in salt content.  Salt causes water retention and water retention causes weight gain.

Eat slowly, stretch out your meals and use smaller dishes and bowls.  This’tricks’ you into thinking you’ve had more.

If you feel you must have a snack, eat fruits(to calm your craving for sweets, and eat raw veggies(the crunch and chewing makes you feel emotionally full)

Drink water, and more water and more water.  Drink 6-12 glasses a day!  Water helps cleanse your body and makes you feel full too.

Do not nibble and taste while you cook.  Remember tasting adds calories too.

Eat food low in saturated fats and sugars(which are empty, useless calories) Eat plenty of fruits, veggies, fish and lean meats.

Stay far away from food made with cream sauces and gravies.  Use herbs and spices to boost the flavor in your food and to get that extra feeling of eating something special.

Keep busy between meals so you don’t eat out of boredom.  Use the stairs instead of the elevator and your bike instead of your car.

If you can’t help yourself and you still go for that piece of cake(once in a while) walk it off, 1 hour of moderate walking will burn off that piece of cake.  Or 20 minutes on your bike should too.

Don’t give up!  bad eating habits are hard to break, just as all bad habits are.  Stick to it. You’ll be happy you did when you see the pounds melting off.

And remember, don’t overdo diet or exercise.  That can lead to other types of bad habits.

So, happy dieting.
